OpenShack is created by Frank Grossmann, DL2CC — an avid contester, DXer and high-speed CW enthusiast with more than 30 years of professional experience in IT and software development, including extensive work in software engineering and datacenter infrastructure. The products grow from decades of operating and technology experience and a practical understanding of how a station should sound, feel and respond.
Remote CW did not begin with this website.
OpenShack has been in the making for years — built through working prototypes, real stations and the operating problems that only become obvious on the air.
The remote-CW work begins.
The first work on a dedicated remote-CW solution began in the early 2000s, long before complete remote operating became a mainstream product category.
The idea becomes working hardware.
An Arduino-based remote solution followed, connecting software, physical keying and the station. It established the practical direction that OpenShack continues today.
Years of experience become one system.
Remote audio, radio control, precise CW transport, station devices, training and the OpenShack Box now work together as one system.
Designed by an active ham.
That experience shapes practical decisions: timing under pressure, fast station feedback, dependable control and tools that do not get in the way.

High-speed CW is both a passion and a discipline. Frank regularly serves as a referee at IARU High Speed Telegraphy World Championships and is the DARC HST officer.
