The Host should not need a network engineer
A remote station is much easier to use when the connection survives ordinary Internet access instead of depending on one special router setup. Start the OpenShack Host, sign in and let the software find a path. In many networks a direct Peer-to-Peer connection works without port forwarding or a special rule in the station router.
If the direct attempt cannot get through, OpenShack automatically switches to the OpenShack server path. The same client can therefore move between home, a hotel, public Wi-Fi and mobile Internet without keeping a separate connection profile for every location.
What the common special cases mean
CGNAT
With Carrier-Grade NAT, several customers share a public IPv4 address. A conventional incoming port-forwarding rule may be impossible because the provider—not your router—controls the outer NAT layer. OpenShack can use its server path instead of asking you to solve something your router cannot solve.
DS-Lite
DS-Lite normally gives you native IPv6 while IPv4 is carried through a shared provider gateway. Incoming public IPv4 connections are therefore restricted. OpenShack can use IPv6 directly where both sides allow it, or fall back automatically when they do not.
IPv6
IPv6 removes the traditional IPv4 NAT layer and can make a direct path possible even when no public IPv4 address exists. OpenShack checks the available paths; you do not have to choose “IPv4 mode” or “IPv6 mode” before every QSO.
Why Peer-to-Peer still matters
A direct connection normally gives audio, control and CW the shortest available route. That means lower latency and fewer intermediate systems. It is therefore the first choice—but not a requirement for operating. A product that only works when P2P succeeds is not plug and play.
What OpenShack does not promise
No software can turn a completely blocked or failed Internet connection into a working station. Corporate firewalls may prohibit all required traffic, and a network outage is still an outage. OpenShack’s job is to handle the normal complications of modern access networks automatically and show useful connection information when diagnosis is needed.
